swan FONT

Spring 2021

Swan is designed as an elegant serif typeface. It is generated from Bodoni and Didot. Some digital versions of Bodoni are said to be hard to read due to "dazzle" caused by the alternating thick and thin strokes, particularly as the thin strokes are very thin at small point sizes. This is very common when optical sizes of font intended for use at display sizes are printed at text size, at which point the hairline strokes can recede to being hard to see. In this way, Swan is tend to keep the elegant characteristic but want to make the typeface more suitable for viewing as text sizes. In terms of personality, Swan still has high contrast and shows elegance, refinement, and dignity.

This modern serif typeface like Bodoni can be most commonly used in headings and display uses and in upmarket magazine printing, which can be done on high-gloss paper that retains and sets off the crisp detail of the fine strokes. During my design of Swan, I also considered the characteristic of Baskerville font, which is a transitional serif typeface. It is rounder, and more sharply cut. But Swan wants to combine these two typeface’s features, the elegant feelings, geometric shapes, rounder and smooth serif. Swan can be used in some fashion or art magazines or posters design.
